HIGHLIGHTING REGIONAL EMERGENCY SHELTERS

The ODM highlights the construction of Resilient Regional Emergency Shelters by the Government of Dominica in Jimmit and the District of Castle Bruce. These shelters are funded by the European Union at a cost of just over 31 million Eastern Caribbean dollars.

The Objectives of the Regional Emergency Shelter projects are:

  • To provide purposefully built emergency shelters for Jimmit and environs and the District of Castle Bruce
  • To provide resource centers for Jimmit and environs and the District of Castle Bruce
  • To enhance the resilience of the District of Castle Bruce and the Jimmit area through the provision of resilient multi-purpose facilities

The Regional Emergency Shelter in Jimmit is estimated to accommodate 500 persons and should be completed by year end. Communities that are projected to benefit from this shelter includes: Jimmit, Belfast, Mahaut, Massacre, Warner, Campbell, Sibouli, Checkhall, Despot, Springfield, Sylvania, Cockrane, Brantridge

The Regional Emergency Shelter in the District of Castle Bruce will accommodate approximately 300 persons and should also be completed by year end. Communities that are projected to benefit from this shelter includes: Castle Bruce, Petite Soufriere, San Sauveur, Good Hope, Mopo, Dix Pas/ Tranto and Kalinago Territory.
